White, or more specifically ‘copper-gold’ coloured grape variety grown widely around the world. Originally from Tramin, a village of Alto Adige region, Italy. Alsace Lorraine has the greatest concentration of Gewurztraminer from where many styles have been grown (from dry to raisiny sweet). The grape’s pinkish skin often makes for a deep yellow wine. Gewurztraminer has the aroma of rose petals, tinned lynches, musk, pineapple, ginger and Turkish Delight. The Gewurztraminer flavour is typically dry, perfumed and gently spicy. (Gewurz refers to spice in German). Tasmania and Victoria produce great Gewurztraminer due to the cooler climate. However, the Wine Look tasting panel firmly acknowledge the excellence of New Zealand Gewurztraminer. Gewurztraminer is not a wine which is can be cellared for a long time. It is recommended that this wine be drunk in its early stage, when it is less than 5 years old. Spicy food and Asian cooking, as well as any food from the Pacific Rim. Gewurztraminer is also a great aperitif during hot summer days.
