If you love Gewьrztraminer, Viognier will suit your pallet. Low in acidity, with a rich silkiness, this wine increasingly gains popularity, and like Gewьrztraminer, it is a wine to drink young. Good Viognier is a premium priced wine, due to its naturally low yield. Viognier needs to be picked in the correct ripe stage in order for it to achieve its true perfume and viscosity. Viognier smells of spring blossom and tastes like fresh pears, peach and apricot. Beechworth Victoria, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley regions are recognized for their well balanced Viognier and blends. Blends with Shiraz are also popular, this gives the wine a lovely perfume. However, too much Viognier, may make such a blend apricot-like in taste.
