Cellar Art

Cellar art has been know for centuries, from the time when our ancestors began taking notice of the aesthetic beauty of wine storage areas. Archeological evidence shows that viticulture (wine growing), which probably originated from Armenia, had spread to Mesopotamia and Egypt by approximately 3000BC. Hand crafted pottery jars have also been found along the wine route, inscribed with details of the vintage and name of grower. There have been many discoveries of other forms of cellar art, which signifies the great appreciation and reverence that our predecessors felt towards wine, and its respective place of cellaring. Some of these other forms of cellar decoration included Fresco tiles and murals.

The collection of cellar art labeled ‘Doors’ reflects the composer’s insight of European and Australian history expressed in the form of wooden installations. A curious characteristic of some of the installations are the doors. These are meant to symbolize the immutable and unchangeable nature of history and time.
Some of the artworks from this artist have been present in many international galleries and private cellars. The ones that are available on WineLook were purchased from an exhibition several years ago, and are being sold online on our website for the first time ever.
